How to get the DFU Mode in iPhone

This artile describes how to perform the DFU Mode in iPhone which demonstrates other tasks like Jailbreaking which can be beneficial for anyone performing iPhone hacks. Before jumping to these iphone hacks be aware of the risks associated with Jailbreaking an Apple iPhone. Apple’s iphone is based on Darwin which is derived from BSD and other free software projects. So any one with good know how on Unix can easily crack into how iPhone works. But Apple has built a very strong baseband (Core) for its iPhone. At first it was difficult to hack into the baseband of iPhone, but later there were several methods of jail breaking emerged. Now lets look what is Jailbreaking and DFU Mode

JailBreaking

Jailbreaking is breaking the protection apple has installed on the iPod/iPhone to allow you to read/write to your iPod Touch/iPhone. This will allow for 3rd party programs to be installed on it. Usually it will put a program called installer onto your iPod Touch/iPhone.

DFU Mode

Device Firmware Update (DFU or sometimes called Device Failsafe Utility) Mode is an iPhone state where the device’s operating system can be overwritten. This is what is commonly used to jail break the phone and install a custom firmware.

How to get into DFU Mode

To put the iPhone into DFU mode so you can do an iTunes firmware restore follow these steps:

Step One
Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.

Step Two
Press and hold the Home button (the only button on front)  and the Sleep/Wake button(on top right ) at the same time.

Step Three
After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until  iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

The iPhone screen will remain black at this time, it may take a few attempts to get your iPhone into DFU mode. Generally, hold down both buttons then release the Home button just before Apple logo would appear. Make sure you are not holding down for too long.
