Apple to launch iAd; Mobile Ad War begin

Apple always showed their unique selling point in all the area they have touched. It has been speculated in the net world about their new advertisement platform for mobile devices. This new mobile ad platform is available in the iPhone OS 4G and is called iAd. It will give the app developers add commercials into the applications they provide. This was announced by Steve Jobs himself last week.

Apple officially launched a developer preview of the iPhone OS 4 on Thursday with integrated ads, location, and multitasking, promising that most users will have access to it by this summer. The new version, called “the next generation of the most advanced mobile operating system in the world” by Apple chief executive Steve Jobs, contains several enhancements to the OS that users have been asking for, including “tentpole” improvements like multitasking, background task completion, and background location. In total, over 100 new user features were added, executives said.

“The average iPhone user spends around 30 minutes a day using apps. Now, if we said we wanted to put an ad up every three minutes, that would be 10 ads per device per day. We’re going to soon have 100 million devices. That’s a billion ad opportunities per day in the iPhone and iPod touch community,” Apple chief Steve Jobs said, reported by IBTimes

What Apple trying to establish is not to design the Ads instead they will leave it to the developers to design and Apple will host the Ads. According to Jobs, iAd will combine the ability of the Web to provide interactivity, with the ability of TV ads to generate emotion. Apple will keep 40 percent of all ad revenue, ceding the other 60 percent to the developer. By theoretically placing an ad every three minutes in front of a user (who, Apple’s research has found, spends an average of 30 minutes using apps), multiplied by the 80 million iPhones and iPod touches sold to date, is an “incredible demographic,” Jobs said.

Google dominate in the web search world and they already hinted in the mobile ad market. So with two giants enter in the much hyped mobile Ad platform the war will begin…..
