Buy a Smart Phone from Nokia and get unlimited music downloads !. Nokia has joined the battle with telecom service providers for a share of the online music market. Nokia said its customers in India will be able to download unlimited music on their handsets or personal computers. But hold on, This 12 months free download is for those customers who buy a smartphone 5-series(5530, 5130, 5235) and X-series of handsets. The price range of these handsets range from Rs 6,000—Rs 18,000, he added.
Existing customers of Nokia who already use handsets from these series cannot avail this facility. “You have to buy a new mobile phone to get unlimited music downloads,” Nokia’s Vice President & Managing Director for India D Shivakumar said. He added that later, Nokia would make this service available on other handset series too.
Music can be downloaded from Nokia’s Ovi Store where you can download ring tones, wallpapers, and other applications etc. You can browse through the following categories Recommended, Applications, Games, Audio & Video, and Personalization. You could also install the Ovi Store application on your mobile, for easier browsing through the store.
The music service from Nokia will offer more than 4 million tracks from across 19 genres including Rock, Sufi, Indipop, Indian Classical and regional music. Nokia has partnered with the Hungama, EMI, Sony, Universal, IMI and others to get the rights to the music.
Nokia has tied up global music labels including Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI Music for the service. It has also partnered with Indian Music Industry (IMI) to offer a consortium of more than 150 domestic music labels like Hungama, Yash Raj, Tseries, Eros and SIMCA (South Indian Music Companies Association). The firm said it had done an in-depth research with Indian consumers on how they would like to consume music on their mobile phones and used the findings to create a ‘Made for India’ music service proposition.
India is now among the top 5 markets for Nokia’s Ovi platform along with China, the UK and Vietnam. India is also the largest market for Nokia Life Tools, a platform aimed at rural applications. There are now one million users of Nokia Life Tools in the country. So Nokia wanted to make their ground strong in the highly competitive Mobile Application market with other major players linke, Apple iTume store and Windows Zune.
