Windows 7 has several built-in tools to help with application compatibility and Windows XP applications should be installed directly on Windows 7. Windows XP Mode runs some older productivity applications that may not run otherwise on Windows 7. Application compatibility is a mode in Windows that lets you run programs or software written for earlier versions of Windows. Most softwares written for Windows Vista also work in Windows 7 but some older programs might not run properly or wont run at all. XP Mode is aimed at businesses that have XP-specific applications that they need to run on Windows 7.
To download the ‘Windows XP Mode’ goto Windows Virtual PC web site and select the edition of windows 7 and language. Install the application to get your old application running on Windows 7. XP mode consists of two things, the Windows Virtual PC engine and a licensed copy of Windows XP Service Pack 3 as a packaged virtual machine. Although neither piece will be included in the Windows 7 box, XP Mode will be a free download for those who have a license to Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Enterprise, or Windows 7 Ultimate. There was some issues with XP mode initially as some Intel processors does not have Virtualization Technology in their Chips. But Microsoft fixed this issue.
