What you do when old programs not work in Windows 7

Program compatibility is a mode in Windows that lets you run programs written for earlier versions of Windows. Most programs written for Windows Vista also work in Windows 7, but some older programs might run poorly or not run at all.If an older program doesn’t run correctly, the first, and easiest, thing to try is the Program Compatibility troubleshooter. It can automatically detect and fix common problems that prevent older programs from installing or running correctly.

For a normal user its hard to find out which one is compatible and which is not. Most application come which the application compatibility notice in their product manual. Always look for ’32bit Vista Compatible’ or ‘Windows 7 compatible logo’. There is in built mechanism in Windows 7 to check the compatibility. To do that first follow these steps in windows 7

  • Click the Start button,
  • Open the Program Compatibility troubleshooter
  • Click Control Panel.
  • In the search box, type troubleshooter,
  • Click Troubleshooting.
  • Under Programs, click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows.
